“I feel like I’m one step ahead, just knowing how doctors and nurses function, how they carry themselves. This program is super supportive and showed me what I want to do in my life.”

OAKLAND HIGH SCHOOL | HEAL and HealthPATH
When my little brother, Reggie, was born, he was just stuck to me. He is about to turn 5 now, and he’s my best little friend. I’m good with babies. I feel like if you can affect them when they’re younger, they’ll have a lot easier time growing up.
I wasn’t very interested in the health field, or doctors or nurses, or anything like that. But our internship liaison at our school, she introduced it. I came to HEAL and fell in love with healthcare, especially working with children. It just shifted my whole outlook on what my future could be like if I take advantage of these opportunities.
One of my most memorable experiences is when I saw two surgeries, including a man getting his prostate removed. I just thought that was mind-blowing. What other 16-year-old can say they’ve seen the insides of people?
I feel like I’m one step ahead, just knowing how doctors and nurses function, how they carry themselves. This program is super supportive and showed me what I want to do in my life.
