HealthPATH Programs

HealthPATH sponsors a range of programs that offer career exploration and career development opportunities for young people from middle school to early adulthood at Alameda Health System’s hospitals and clinics.

Each year we provide internships and other work-based learning experiences to more than 500 young people through HealthPATH’s seven programs. Our programs expose youth and young adults to career opportunities in healthcare and help put them on a path to educational and career success.

THE BEST WAY TO LEARN IS BY DOING.

The AHS Simulation Program, nestled within the hospital system, operates a throughout the system as well as a 2,500 square-foot Simulation Center based at the Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Campus. Under the umbrella of the Quality Department, we take pride in conducting diverse and impactful simulation-based education programming. It goes beyond traditional boundaries by engaging in youth pipeline programming and introducing aspiring healthcare providers to the intricacies of the field through the partnership with HealthPATH Programs. Additionally, the center conducts interprofessional and in-situ programming, bringing simulations directly into clinical environments for a more contextualized learning experience. Leveraging a comprehensive approach, our program utilizes a variety of simulation modalities, including manikin-based simulations, simulation patients, task-trainers, and hybrid simulations, ensuring a dynamic and immersive learning experience. With an annual output exceeding 7,500 learner contact hours, we are dedicated to enhancing the clinical skills and competence of healthcare professionals. Furthermore, we are proud to announce our provisional accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, a testament to our commitment to excellence in simulation-based education.

The Simulation Center was funded by a grant from Atlantic Philanthropies to provide immersive educational activities for HealthPATH programs at AHS. HealthPATH is a workforce development initiative aimed at preparing under-represented youth and young adults for careers in health care. HealthPATH students will participate in scheduled hands-on programs that include simulated procedures, patient interactions, and medical emergencies. This is in addition to, the hospital staff using the Center to prepare for any situation.
