HEAL Program Young Men of Color Summer Internship
The HEAL Program Young Men of Color internship introduces 8th grade boys of color to career opportunities in the healthcare field. Students gain exposure to health careers through hands-on experiences such as skills workshops, panels with health professionals, simulation lab experience, and small group mentorship.
The HEAL Program internship is a 1-week internship at Highland Hospital in which program participants:
- Intro to Health Careers: Students are introduced to a broad spectrum of health careers and learn about the education and training requirements to pursue their career goals.
- Professional and Life Skills: Students attend classes and workshops covering topics such as professionalism, collaboration and teamwork, public speaking, and other skills that are critical to success in any career.
- Simulation Lab Experience: Gain hands-on skills in our state-of-the-art simulation center such as CPR, vitals, bedside care, etc., working with high tech simulation manikins.

Internship Details
- Application Opens: February 29th

- Internship Duration: April 1, 2024 – April 5, 2024
- Schedule: Monday – Friday | 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
- Location: Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Campus
- Compensation: $250 stipend
General Eligibility
To be eligible to apply, you must:
- Be a male of color in the 8th grade, and
- Attend a school/charter in the Oakland Unified School District
